Why did we choose Ukraine
I know many of you wonder why David and I decided to adopt, much less from another country. After three years of trying to get pregnant (and that little clock just a ticking away) it seemed that it was time to either hang it up (ha, David probably wouldn't like the sound of that) or look into other avenues. At 41, I just didn't feel that I wanted to go through invetro, so adoption looked like a viable option. After talking with Evie Knight (one of my co-workers) she really encouraged me to speak with Bruce Marshall (another co-worker) who had adopted independently with Cathy Harris. After one conversation with Bruce (about an hour) I was ready to go. That man could sell ice at the North Pole...anyway, I came home and shared with David the good news. We agreed to only tell my parents until we were a little into the process, realizing that it would take a long time. As fate would have it, the day after we told my parents, my Aunt Marilyn called and asked if I would like to attend a black tie event in Lousiville. Of course, I would love to attend a fancy smancy party with good food. Then she wanted to know if I wanted to know what it was....oh yeah, forgot that part. When she told me, I almost died. She said it was to support Hopeful Hearts in Louisville. They have this dinner/silent auction to raise money to help orphanages in Ukraine. Wow, what are the odds. Okay God, I hear ya and we will start the paperwork. The next day, I contacted Cathy Harris...got the emails with all of the required paperwork...ughhhhhhhh. The next weekend I attended an adoption fair in Louisville to get a better understanding of the process. I ran into an individual who had an Adoption Agency in Danville...it is 1 and 1/2 hours from Lousiville, but only 20 miles from our home. Better yet, she lives in the house beside my step-dad's parents. We are really having some neat experiences. I hope everything else goes this well...knock, knock...if I can find some wood!
