Wow, long time no see!
As you can see, the time since our last post till now has been a long one. Nothing happened for a long time and then BAMM....our life started moving into overdrive. I'm going to try to catch everything up without boring you all to death.
1st, back in July of 2006 (after the adoption centre had been closed FOREVER) they told everyone that had a registration number (that would be us...woo hoo) to send a letter to them to let them know that we were still interested in adopting from Ukraine. Okay, we did it. They would begin having appointments in September. Towards the end of August, a GENERAL list of registration numbers were posted telling everyone what month they (the adopting families) would have an appointment. Based on our number, it looked like we would have an appointment soon after mid-November. Of course, I just knew that I was going to have an awesome birthday present on the 17th!
2nd, In September a notice went out to everyone that all documents in your dossier (the wonderful packet of government documents that we have put together numerous times to prove that we are worthy) had to be current. As luck would have it, the agency license of the adoption agency that did our home study expired in September...so we had to hurry and get a copy of the license, get it certified and apostilled and sent over. Whew...we got it there just in time.
3rd verse...same as the 1st. Not exactly, but I just needed to say it. The November dates were posted and ...............................:( we weren't on it. Ughhhhhh. The last number was 119 numbers before ours. Now, don't let that number alarm you, it is not as bad as it seems. Many people with registration numbers in front of us may have already adopted an older child and got an appointment last year or some people just gave up and chose to adopt somewhere else.
4th...On November 10th, I got a call from Chris Diehl (who is also adopting from Ukraine and works with my Aunt Marilyn) that he had called the SDA (the adoption center) and asked if he had an appointment and he did....December 12th. Woo Hoo. Barring anything being wrong with our paperwork, we should have an appointment before then (our registration number was 75 numbers before him). He called me while I was driving to work, so I had to wait a little bit before calling, but had too soon before the SDA closed. After a brief conversation with the nicest lady, she told me we have an appointment for December 6th. I can't believe after almost two years we are finally getting to go!
